The eThekwini Municipality is seeking a service provider for the rethreading of commercial tyres over a 36-month period. The work involves collecting, inspecting, and reconditioning tyres for various municipal workshops, including the Central Bus Depot and Mobeni Tyre Workshop. Key tasks include non-destructive testing, surface preparation, vulcanizing, and final quality checks. The service provider must ensure a maximum turnaround time of four working days per batch. Deliverables include weekly tyre analysis reports, quarterly performance reports, and a 12-month workmanship warranty. All work must meet SANS 1925 and SANS 20109 standards. The successful bidder must operate a rethreading plant located within KwaZulu-Natal. The contract aims to maintain municipal fleet safety and operational efficiency through high-quality tyre maintenance.
What you need to qualify
- CSD registration — Registration on the Central Supplier Database — required to do business with government.
- Tax clearance — A valid SARS tax compliance status (PIN) showing your tax affairs are in order.
- Letter of Good Standing — COID registration and a Letter of Good Standing from the Compensation Fund.
- Other registration — An industry registration the tender requires (e.g. PSIRA, NHBRC, a professional or trade licence).

- Registered on the National Treasury Central Supplier Database (CSD)
- Minimum 3 years commercial tyre rethreading experience with reference letters
- ISO 9001 certification for the rethreading facility
- National Regulator for Compulsory Specification (NRCS) approval
- Rethreading plant facility located in KwaZulu-Natal
- Subcontracting agreement with 51% black-owned automotive entity (minimum 10%)
- Successful on-site inspection of premises and equipment
- Valid Tax Compliance Status PIN
- Proof of payment for municipal fees or debt agreement
- Compliance with the Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act
- Comprehensive insurance coverage
