The National Transmission Company South Africa (NTCSA) has issued a tender for the high-risk replacement of ASEA IMBA/E current transformers (CTs) at Avon, Impala, Mersey, and Tugela substations. The project involves decommissioning existing CTs, installing new units, and performing associated cabling and stringing works. The tender (E3248NTCSAMWP) requires bidders to meet specific technical thresholds for control cabling and substation equipment installation. The project is scheduled to commence in 2026, with a validity period of 12 weeks. Bidders must adhere to strict local content requirements for substation hardware and steel. A non-compulsory clarification meeting is scheduled via Microsoft Teams. All submissions must be made electronically via the NTCSA E-tendering portal.
What you need to qualify
- CSD registration — Registration on the Central Supplier Database — required to do business with government.
- Registered company — An active CIPC-registered company in good standing.
- Tax clearance — A valid SARS tax compliance status (PIN) showing your tax affairs are in order.
- B-BBEE certificate — A B-BBEE certificate or sworn affidavit confirming your contribution level.
- CIDB grading (Grade 4 Electrical Engineering (Infrastructure) (4EP)) — A Construction Industry Development Board grade in the right class of works.
- Letter of Good Standing — COID registration and a Letter of Good Standing from the Compensation Fund.

- Valid CIDB grading of 4EP or higher
- Valid Central Supplier Database (CSD) registration
- Valid SARS tax compliance status PIN
- Audited financial statements for the previous 18 months
- Valid COIDA Letter of Good Standing
- Compliance with Quality Category 3 requirements
- Valid B-BBEE certificate, sworn affidavit, or CIPC certificate
- Proof of compliance with the Employment Equity Act
