The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is establishing a panel of contractors to provide borehole services. The work involves siting, drilling, and equipping boreholes across various districts in KwaZulu-Natal. Key tasks include geo-hydrological assessments, drilling to a minimum depth of 50 meters, yield testing, water quality analysis, and installing pumps and reservoirs. The contract will run for 36 months, with a two-month construction period for each assigned project. Contractors must be prepared to work on an as-and-when basis. The project also includes a six-month defect liability period after completion.
What you need to qualify
- CSD registration — Registration on the Central Supplier Database — required to do business with government.
- B-BBEE certificate — A B-BBEE certificate or sworn affidavit confirming your contribution level.
- CIDB grading (Grade 1 Civil Engineering (1CE)) — A Construction Industry Development Board grade in the right class of works.
- Letter of Good Standing — COID registration and a Letter of Good Standing from the Compensation Fund.
- Other registration — An industry registration the tender requires (e.g. PSIRA, NHBRC, a professional or trade licence).

- Registered on National Treasury Central Suppliers Database (CSD)
- Minimum CIDB grading of 1CE or higher
- Professional registration with SACNASP (Water Resource Scientist or Geohydrologist)
- Membership with the Ground-water Association of KwaZulu-Natal
- Proof of R1 Million credit facility
- Valid B-BBEE certificate or sworn affidavit
- Proof of COIDA registration
- Evidence of relevant past project experience
- Proof of ownership or lease for drilling equipment and vehicles
